Bantam League Baseball

The Bantam Baseball League is offered for both boys and girls 6 through 12 years of age. The league age is the age of your child on August 1 of the present year. Older children are not allowed to participate with younger age groups.

Parents must provide all players with a glove, white baseball pants and athletic shoes.

With the exception of the 6 and 7 year olds your child WILL be scheduled to play at least one game during the week starting at 7:10 P.M. and ending about 8:45 P.M.

Sign-ups are held the end of February and the first week of March. Team draft is held in mid March. Requests to play with a certain coach or player, may or may not be granted. We average 600 families for spring sports. It is impossible to satisfy every request. Coaches generally start practicing the first week in April. Most teams will practice twice a week until the season begins. Uniforms will be distributed during practices. The season starts towards the end of April and continues through the end of the school year.

Each coach will have a copy of the rules. Please ask your child’s coach if you have questions regarding the rules. Our rules are modified to maximize learning the fundamentals of the game, and minimize the frustration of learning difficult hand-eye coordination skills. There is no emphasis on winning or losing. The only reason we keep score in the younger age groups is so we may know when to end an inning.

Six and seven year olds play Tee ball and use a soft Incrediball. Due to overwhelming growth, Tee Ball teams will practice and play some games at a location other than the Sports Complex. Last year we had six teams and they played ten games. The eight and nine year olds will use the pitching machine and the reduced injury factor ( RIF ) ball. Last year we had six teams and they played a ten game schedule. We will have four or five - ten, eleven and twelve -year-old teams plus we play games against Walker’s Pioneer Baseball League. They will play an eight or ten game schedule.

We pay umpires to work our games but they are not professionals. PLEASE TREAT OUR UMPIRES WITH RESPECT. SHOW GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP AT ALL TIMES.

Junior Pony League Baseball

City of Coopersville Recreation offers this program to thirteen-year-olds who have played in the Coopersville Bantam Baseball League.

This league is for thirteen-year-olds only. Players may not be fourteen before August 1. This league is a great program for the thirteen-year-olds. They learn about playing on the bigger field, without the added pressure of playing against older kids. Last year the kids played 20 games plus a season ending tournament. The season starts early May and ends the end of June. Practices will be starting in April. We play home games at CAPS baseball fields.

There will be many Saturday practices and games. During the week we play Tuesdays and Thursdays. There may even be Sunday practices. There may be more away games than home games. And some of the areas we play are a half-hour away. We need the parent’s commitment as well as the players.

More information will be posted closer to the sign-up dates.

Senior Pony League Baseball

This league is for players age fourteen through sixteen. Players may not be seventeen before August 1.

The Pony League Baseball starts practice in May and games in early June. Depending on how many teams are in the league the season will conclude in the second or third week of July. Please make sure your player has the commitment to play during the summer. Do not register for Pony League Baseball if your family or your child will be frequently unavailable during the season. We participate in the West Michigan Pony League consisting of teams from around Muskegon . We need your commitment as well as your player’s. Requests can not be guaranteed.

The registration is held in mid April. We will draft the teams in late April.

You must provide white pants, a glove, and cleats. Steel cleats are acceptable. No screw-in cleats.
